International Physical Therapy Practicum Conducted in the Philippines and Indonesia

From February 14 to March 1, 2026, Seirei Christopher University conducted an International Physical Therapy Practicum across the Philippines and Indonesia. The program was hosted at two of the university’s esteemed partner institutions: Mariano Marcos State University in the Philippines and Hasanuddin University in Indonesia. This practicum is designed to enhance students’ professional knowledge and clinical skills through rigorous training at overseas educational and medical institutions, while simultaneously fostering a sophisticated international perspective.

During the program, students received direct clinical instruction from local physical therapists. Through this hands-on training, they analyzed differences in disease prevalence, evaluation methodologies, and treatment techniques that vary from standard practices in Japan. Exposure to these diverse healthcare environments enabled students to deepen their understanding of how physical therapy must adapt flexibly to distinct clinical and socio-cultural contexts.

A significant component of the curriculum involved professional discussions conducted in English with local students. These exchanges provided a platform for students to navigate complex therapeutic topics, thereby developing essential international communication skills and allowing them to reflect objectively on their own clinical perspectives. Beyond the formal practicum, students engaged in extensive cultural and social exchanges with faculty members and peers at the host institutions. Experiencing the nuances of daily life and differing cultural values broadened their global outlook and provided a holistic dimension to their academic learning.

Through this dual-country practicum, students gained the diverse perspectives and practical experience necessary to underpin their future professional development. The insights gained will support their journey toward becoming physical therapists capable of delivering high-quality rehabilitation services in a wide range of settings, both within Japan and in the global healthcare arena.
