Bridging Rehabilitation Education Between Japan and Singapore
From December 8 to December 12, 2025, Seirei Christopher University welcomed a total of 13 trainees from Singapore, including nine students from our partner institution, Singapore Institute of Technology (two in Physical Therapy, two in Occupational Therapy, and five in Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences), as well as four trainees from St. Andrew's Community Hospital (SACH). During their stay, the participants took part in a training program hosted by the university.
Throughout the program, the trainees visited a wide range of medical, welfare, and educational facilities in the local community, including Seirei Mikatahara General Hospital, Hamamatsu City Rehabilitation Hospital, Mikatahara Bethel Home, Seirei Day Service Center Mikatahara, Work Center Futaba, Mental Clinic Dada, Hidamari no Michi / Sampomichi, Hamamatsu School for the Deaf, and Nearai Gakuen. Through these visits, participants observed rehabilitation, healthcare, and welfare practices in Japan and gained a deeper understanding of professional support and treatment approaches.
In addition, the trainees attended lectures and practical sessions at the university, where they experienced Japanese rehabilitation education firsthand. Through interaction with Seirei Christopher University students, active discussions took place beyond differences in professional fields, cultures, and national backgrounds, providing a valuable and mutually stimulating learning experience.
On the final day, a completion ceremony was held, and certificates were presented by the Dean of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences. The program also included social activities such as lunch gatherings and sightseeing around Hamamatsu City, which helped participants build friendships with one another and with university students.
It is our hope that the learning and exchanges gained through this program will not only enhance each participant’s professional expertise but also contribute to their future success in the international fields of healthcare and welfare.
